Dr. Matthew Kanaan opened Wake Sports Medicine, a sports medicine and nonsurgical orthopedic practice, in August of 2013. Wake Sports Medicine is a division of Wake Internal Medicine Consultants. Dr. Kanaan specializes in nonsurgical orthopedic care including ultrasound guided joint injections/aspirations of the extremities and hip for tendonitis and arthritis, sports injuries including basic sprains and fractures, and advanced injections including hyaluronic acid, prolotherapy, and platelet-rich plasma. Dr. Kanaan utilizes every possible nonsurgical option available prior to referring to his surgical colleagues.
Dr. Kanaan had special instruction in Musculoskeletal Ultrasound during his Fellowship at Duke Sports Medicine and served as an assistant team physician for Duke Football, Basketball, and Lacrosse. He regularly volunteers at the Special Olympics and won the Duke Family Medicine Resident Teaching Award in 2012. Dr. Kanaan and his wife both enjoy an active lifestyle in Raleigh, and therefore he makes every attempt to return his patients to the activities that they themselves enjoy. Dr. Kanaan is accepting new patients.
