What is Rheumatology?
Rheumatology is a field of medicine that specializes in the evaluation and treatment of musculoskeletal conditions whose common characteristics include inflammation in the bones, joints, and muscles. Because rheumatology is a sub-specialty of Internal Medicine, our practitioner is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine.

Wake Internal Medicine is proud to welcome Dr. Walt Chmelewski to the practice and as the founding physician of Wake Internal Medicine Rheumatology. Dr. Chmelewski joined Wake Internal at the beginning of October 2024 and is excited to continue providing rheumatological care to the Raleigh and surrounding Triangle area.
Dr. Chmelewski has been practicing rheumatology for over 30 years, providing his patients with excellent care in rheumatic, musculoskeletal, and immunological issues. With his well-established patient base, Dr. Chmelewski is excited to continue being a source of prompt access to rheumatic care and evaluation.
