How We Began Wake Internal Medicine Consultants, Inc. (WIMC)

Wake Internal Medicine Consultants, Inc. (WIMC) is a professional corporation that grew out of the Raleigh Internal Medicine doctors practice of Dr. Thomas Umphlet. Dr. Umphlet began his practice in 1938 at the Cameron Apartments building in Raleigh, North Carolina, with a medical office and onsite lab. This lab was the only approved serology lab in North Carolina that was not state owned. His doctors office moved to 119 S. Boylan Avenue Raleigh, North Carolina in 1947 as partners were added.

Wake Internal Medicine Consultants, Inc. (WIMC) in Raleigh was incorporated in 1981 and was moved into the Rex Hospital medical office building at the then new Lake Boone Trail site. The physicians practiced at that location until 1985 when the practice moved into the new 3100 Blue Ridge Road building (our current location). After months of planning, the practice expanded to its new North Raleigh satellite location in March 2008. Conveniently located in the new Durant Medical Center, WIMC continues its focus on Internal Medicine with the addition of a Pediatrics program!

As of November 13, 2023, the practice located at 3100 Blue Ridge Road moved just down the road to 3237 Blue Ridge Road.

Currently, WIMC consists of 33 providers.

WIMC offers general medical care to adults and children, with subspecialty care in:
